We’re excited to announce that the BackerKit surveys will be sent next week—mostly likely on Monday, August 17th! Before they go out, we’ll share another update with everything you need to know about completing your survey and confirming your rewards!
Please note: Every backer will need to complete the survey, regardless of what you pledged, so be on the look out next week for the announcement!

Quick word re: payment processing and introduction to Backerkit

Dear Backers,
Well, that's a wrap! Our Kickstarter campaign didn't quite turn back into a pumpkin last night—we will still leave late pledges open for a few weeks. But the campaign is officially done and we well surpassed our goal... because of you!
Thanks so much again for running with us.
We also wanted to say a quick word about two logistical items: payment processing and our pledge management system, Backerkit.
Payment processing: currently there are a small handful of pledges marked "errored". This is usually caused by:
- Incorrect card information or expiry dates
- Insufficient funds
- Fraud protection temporarily blocking the transaction
We will reach out to those backers individually to let them know. To resolve this, please contact your bank or update your payment information through Kickstarter.
If Kickstarter is showing an error that prevents your payment from processing, please email [email protected] directly for assistance.
Backerkit: As some of you may be new to Kickstarter, we also wanted to give a quick overview of what happens next.
You may already have questions about shipping, taxes, address changes, or adding items to your pledge.
This is where BackerKit comes in.
BackerKit is the fulfilment platform we use to manage the final stages of the campaign. Once we are ready, you will receive a survey through BackerKit where you can:
- Confirm your mailing address
- Pay taxes and shipping costs (if they are not already included in your reward)
- Add extra items from the campaign if you wish
These surveys will arrive later in the process—within the next 2-3 months or so, if not sooner—and we’ll continue posting updates between now and then.
As soon as that is done, we will send out the physical rewards to all backers!
In the meantime, we will aim to get everyone some of the digital rewards—specifically the digital wallpaper and the PDF of the book—much sooner, within the next month, month and a half max.
The livestream with the entire creative team will take place sometime in the fall, most likely in November.
For those of you who have chosen to get in-book cameos or a call from Brad and Dan, we'll be emailing you individually to let you know how all that will unfold as well.

Running a Kickstarter = Engaging with Community

One of our big takeaways from running our first-ever Kickstarter is that it is all about engaging with community.
That includes all of you.
And also other creators out there trying to engage with their community as well.
As our Kickstarter enters its final hours, we wanted to shout out to at least one other campaign that is also wrapping up soon, and we came across something close to our hearts in this brave new age of AI—a project that appeals to the meaning found in making something.
The meaning found in the blank page. The uncertainty. The struggle. The breakthroughs. The drafting and re-drafting. The discussions with fellow makers, editors and other humans. And the slow emergence of a creation as real and alive as a tree.
